Julia Roberts marked a major family milestone with a rare look into her private world, sharing a sweet childhood snapshot of her twins, Phinnaeus and Hazel, as they celebrated their 21st birthday on Friday, Nov. 28.
The Oscar-winning actress—long known for keeping her children out of the public eye—posted the throwback photo on Instagram, delighting fans with an image of the siblings sitting side-by-side in matching highchairs. Behind them, a pair of pastel gift bags hinted that the moment may have been captured around their first birthday.

“These game changers, life alterers, expanders once were 1 and now are 21!” Roberts wrote in her caption. “That was fast Happy Birthday my Dears.”
Though Roberts keeps her comments closed, friends and co-stars sent private birthday wishes for what one described as “the sweetest pair.”
Roberts shares the twins—along with her younger son, 18-year-old Henry—with her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder. The couple, who value privacy deeply, rarely share family moments on social media. Earlier this year, however, they posted a romantic snapshot for their 23rd wedding anniversary, while Moder shared a warm family portrait of Roberts with all three of their children on Mother’s Day.
The actress herself has been seen more frequently in public this past year, drawing attention when she appeared at the Soccer Aid charity match in June wearing a red blazer decorated with soccer-ball motifs. She and Moder also made headlines at Wimbledon in July for a rare display of affection as they sat courtside.

In a recent interview, Roberts reflected on her parenting approach, revealing that she and Moder “would have been considered some of the stricter parents” in their children’s younger years. She said they took extra care to keep their kids offline longer than most of their peers—part of a broader effort to give them a grounded, uncluttered upbringing away from the spotlight.
For fans, the newly shared photo offered a brief but heartwarming glimpse of a family moment the actress typically keeps behind closed doors—a reminder of how quickly those early years pass, even for Hollywood icons.
