X Rolls Out AI-Ranked Following Feed Powered by Grok. Elon Musk’s social media platform X has introduced a major change to its “Following” timeline, replacing the traditional chronological format with an AI-driven ranking system. The update, announced on November 27, 2025, deploys Grok—X’s in-house artificial intelligence chatbot—to prioritize posts based on predicted user interest.
The move marks a shift toward algorithmic curation on the platform, while still preserving the option for users to revert to the unfiltered, chronological feed.

How the Grok Ranking System Works
Grok evaluates posts from accounts users already follow, assessing engagement signals and topical relevance to determine which updates appear first. Instead of displaying posts strictly by time, the AI reorders the feed to highlight content it predicts users will find most engaging.
In an official response on the platform, Grok stated that it ranks the Following feed “to show the most engaging posts first based on what I think you’ll like.”
Elon Musk emphasized that users maintain control: the chronological version of the feed can be restored at any time from the menu settings.

Accessing the New Feature
Users can access the AI-ranked timeline by updating the X app on iOS or Android to the latest version. After installation, the Following tab automatically begins displaying posts curated by Grok’s algorithm.
Those who prefer the classic time-based ordering can tap the three-dot menu at the top of the feed and select the chronological mode. No additional setup is required, making the transition unobtrusive for the platform’s global user base.
Part of a Broader AI Integration Strategy
The rollout fulfills Musk’s earlier pledge to introduce a fully AI-powered feed by November 2025. He previously stated that Grok would eventually analyze nearly 100 million English-language posts per day, categorizing them and matching them with relevant users—an operation he described as “beyond human capability.”
X plans to publish algorithm updates every two weeks to reinforce transparency and allow users to understand how their feeds are shaped.
The company is also developing semantic search tools that will allow users to ask questions and receive relevant posts—whether text or images—directly within search results.
User Control and Platform Vision
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, has said the platform aims to highlight users’ niche interests rather than amplify mainstream debates or political trends. The Grok-powered Following feed supports this approach by focusing on content from accounts users have intentionally chosen to follow.
The update arrives alongside other recent trust-oriented features, including the “About this account” verification tool, which helps users distinguish authentic profiles from bots, spam, or AI-generated accounts.
Together, these changes reflect Musk’s ambition to combine algorithmic personalization with user autonomy—positioning X as a platform that balances AI-driven relevance with transparent content ordering.
